The annual Help Kids Live Better Campaign goes from June 22nd-July19th. Thank you for supporting our store! You are helping to make a difference in our community when you make a gift to Rady Children’s Hospital. Each year, Rady Children’s treats more than 250,000 sick and injured kids and more than 55% have little to no medical insurance. Your passion and enthusiasm to help kids live better translates into better care, cutting-edge research, life-saving equipment and more for kids treated at Rady Children's. Thank you for helping kids reach their full potential through the power of philanthropy.
Here’s just example how a little can go a long way:
Grace arrived 10 weeks early, weighing just two pounds, and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital’s NICU. She was so tiny that she needed to be intubated in order to breathe. Grace required an additional level of care, so she was transported to Rady Children’s where pediatric specialists were prepared to care for the tiny infant.
Her parents knew there was no better place for their baby. Rob, Grace’s father, watched over tiny Grace for three straight days until Laura, her mom, was discharged from the hospital. Grace’s Giraffe isolette bed kept her warm, safe and alive as her systems developed and she continued to grow. Grace’s NICU journey lasted 45 days, with her mom by her side every day. Laura remembers well the first time she was able to hold Grace on her chest, giving her the skin-on-skin time that helps babies bond with their parents. When Grace was finally ready to go home, she was only 4.5 pounds.
Grace has come a long way since then. The silly, energetic 6-year-old is thriving. She recently spoke at a golf tournament fundraiser where she made sure to visit with all the golfers, sit at each table and sign special “allstar” cards made in her honor. Her family attributes her health not only to the excellent care she received at Rady Children’s, but also to the nurses who loved her as though she were their own.
