A healthy mouth is integral to a child's overall physical and mental health. Oral health during infancy and childhood can have a lasting impact on a child's quality of life. There is growing concern about dental disease among children, yet it is a preventable, chronic condition.
Dental disease is prevalent among our youth. Oral health during infancy can have a lasting impact on a person's health because good oral health can improve a child's quality of life and the ability to speak, smile, eat and taste. There is growing concern of dental disease among young children, yet oral disease is a preventable, chronic condition. Nationally, 1 out of 5 children ages 5-11 and 1 out of 7 adolescents ages 12-19 has at least one tooth with untreated decay. The adverse effects of dental disease can extend beyond tooth decay and pain to affect overall physical and mental health.
The Anderson Center for Oral Health was established in 1996 to honor the legacy of Dr. Albert L. Anderson. The center improves the oral health and well-being of all children, with an emphasis on young children and those with disabilities or complex medical conditions through community and professional education, improved access to care and advocacy. Dr. Anderson was a highly respected pediatric dentist in San Diego who was dedicated to taking care of the dental needs of pediatric patients, especially those with special healthcare needs.
As the need for improving access to oral health care for young children increases, so does the Center's need for support from our community. Growing the Anderson Center for Oral Health Endowment will help to ensure the Center will be there to support future generations of children.
Donations to this page will support the Anderson Center for Oral Health Endowment at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego, to help ensure children have access to appropriate and preventable oral health care now, and in the future. Every child deserves a chance to grow and live to their fullest potential.
