Avila was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) on July 29, 2019. Her mom and dad noticed symptoms of unusual fatigue and pale skin, so they brought her into the emergency room and soon discovered she had cancer. She was immediately admitted to Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego, where she stayed for three weeks before returning home.
Since diagnosis, Avila has received a variety of chemotherapy treatments and multiple blood transfusions; taken medications including steroids, anti-nausea therapy and blood thinners; and had several hospital stays. She has also experienced acute kidney injury and a blood clot; both of which have been resolved thanks to the amazing doctors and staff at Rady Children’s. She still has a long road ahead and is keeping a brave face on.
Avila has three siblings who lift her spirits and support her. She loves to sing and make music videos with her daddy.
